What Jason's Been Drinking...
Cocchi Americano
Lately I've been delving into the world of aperitifs. One of my new discoveries is this delicious product from Asti. This is a table wine infused with herbs, fruits and spices resulting in something that tastes, to me, very much like Campari. In fact, I find the flavors of this aperitif to be very reminiscent of a Negroni, my staple cocktail. Slightly bitter, slightly sweet, with hints of herbs and citrus, this is the perfect thing to serve with club soda on the rocks with a twist during the patio season.

Dolin Vermouth Blanc
Here's another aperitif for my summer drinking needs. This Blanc is a sweet, white vermouth that is responsible for one of my new favorite summer drinks. Take roughly 1/3 Dolin Blanc and pour it on the rocks with 2/3 club soda. Add a couple wedges of lime and a few mint leafs from the garden and you have one of the simplest, imminently quaffable cocktails imaginable.

La Mascaronne, 2009 Cotes De Provence Rose
On Vacation I make it a point to practice the three R's. Relax, read and rose's! I drink a lot of roses on vacation and one I keep going back to is the La Mascaronne rose from Provence. Relaxing on the deck in the warm afternoon sun with a glass of rose is perfect. Add some tender, smoky, spicy barbeque ribs it and it's even more perfect!

What Michael's Been Drinking...
Rousseau Frères Rosè 2009 - France
This Loire Valley rosé, from the tiny appellation of Touraine Noble Joué,is one of my favorite in the shop. It shows a bit more fruit than the southern French rosés that dominate our selection but there is snappy acidity to balance the fruit, making this one of the most refreshing, and food friendly pinks in the shop.

What Kyle's Been Drinking...
Marcel Lapierre Raisins gaulois - France
Despite the plethora of wines we taste at the shop, I often find myself falling into "wine" ruts when it comes to my home consumption. During the summer, when the weather turns warm, I most often gravitate toward whites and rosés to quench my thirst. As much as I might like to drink Tempier Rosé every day, or maybe Premier Cru Chablis (like I did with the amazing clams Maureen dug for us this past weekend), I can't. I'd either quickly deplete my cellar, or go bankrupt. Besides, I have a tendency to forget how good some summer-weight reds can be. So, with that in mind, I cracked open the Lapierre "Raisins Gaulois" IX, a young vine Gamay from the Morgon Cru of Beaujolais, last night to accompany, of all things, Filipino food. Grilled marinated pork, fried bangus (milkfish), balatung (mung beans with pork) and rice all went beautifully with the lightly-chilled, fruity red. Bright notes of raspberry and rose, along with a generous helping of acidity, gave the just the right lift to counterbalance the richness of the food. And with its very low alcohol, before I knew it, we were seeing the end of the bottle. All that, AND I didn't have to spend a small fortune for it. You can bet I'll be reaching for this one over and over as long as the summer sun holds out.

What Jean-Jacques's Been Drinking...
Les Perles Piquepoul 2009
You don't really need a reason or a season to drink Piquepoul (indigenous grape varietal from the south of France). For example, in the Languedoc, during winter, this minerally and sharply focused beverage is consumed (in moderation, of course) with oysters from the Etang de Thau, and during summer, in Provence, its citrus flavors pair perfectly with grilled, wild caught sardines from the shores of Marseille. The beauty of living in the Pacific Northwest is that I can re-create all these fond gastronomic memories: excellent oysters from the Sound and fresh sardines from the Pacific Ocean. And the pike Place market is well supplied with all of the culinary necessities. Have fun grilling and pique-niquing...santé!!
